It's a little unfortunate that this donut hole is in San Jose, California. However, maybe it's also a good thing because if it were here, I'd probably go once a week easily to try something different every time. And this place does change up its types of donuts... so the possibilities are almost endless! I don't do sweets like this often, but when in Rome... Psycho Donuts was a morning snack for my friend and I as we passed by, saw it and couldn't resist walking in. Come on, there's a donut being chased by the words... just shouts awesome! The inside was decked out with anything but ordinary! The lights are eyeballs, There's old school photos from horror movies and theater. They even had cooky items for sale! But When inside, we decided to share a donut... probably the most difficult decision was which kind to get. We settled for the Mellow Submarine aka the rice crispy donut. This donut was exactly what you'd expect - a freshly made donut topped with rice crispies and marshmallows. mmm rice crispy squares and donut put together! Delicious! Sure, it was a bit of a sugar rush first thing in the morning, but all worth it! Other donuts we debated on were the Kooky Monster - crushed Oreos and blue drizzle, Dirty Turtle - chocolate turtles anyone? And one with Butterfingers. Just check out the site for some of the tasty goodness: http://www.psycho-donuts.com/. And enjoy the visual below. Oh and yes they have the Homer Simpson donut!

Burger paradise! And it's not just for carnivores - vegetarians you're welcome too. In Vancouver, there's 5 Guys that everyone seems to enjoy. I assure you, The Works is way better. Too bad it's an Ontario joint. Every time I visit home now I make the place a necessary visit. The menu is quite interesting. You order your own bun, patty and options for topping seem endless. Don't believe me? Get the juicy details and more right here: http://www.worksburger.com/Menu/Burger-Menu.aspx **Note you can order other items on the menu, but like going out for wings at a wing place, this is your ultimate burger paradise! There used to be more options, but recently they condensed the menu as many were similar. But if you want something added, taken away or whatever your tastebuds desire, they'll do it up for you! The service is excellent, but be wary of the reviews that say it's slow. Your food doesn't come out super quick (it's about 20-30 minutes) because everything is cooked from scratch. If you want fast, cheap service go somewhere else. This food is worth the wait. Besides, restaurants make nice social gatherings! My most recent visit I ordered the Big Ben Plus - Montréal smoked meat, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Not sure if I need to say more, the beef burger alone was juicy and cooked medium-rare (delicious!). Everything on the burger was fresh, accented each other, and not overcooked. I always get the Spicy Die-cut Chips as the side, which are overly addictive thinly sliced roasted potatoes with a spicy kick! I can also vouche for their onion rings - also crispy and delicious... not to mention huge! And to wash it down with a massive glass measuring cup of water. Yup it's awesome! So if you have yet to go, get to The Works! Go with an appetite and I assure you, you won't be disappointed! Other Gourmet burgers I've had are: 1. Sk8r Boy - Jack cheese, peanut butter and bacon. The peanut butter is infused into the patty, adding a nice nutty flavour, and the crispy bacon... pretty sure I could eat this every day. 2. Man Cave - Caramelized onions, bold BBQ sauce, jack geese and bacon - Crispy bacon and onion, paired with a very kick-ass BBQ sauce make this burger amazing!! There are others my family members have gotten and they've all been amazing! Get out and try this place! Patio season has begun... well, at least this week anyways. What better way to kick it off than a nice dinner out with one of my good friends at Chill Winston. We decided after work to head towards Gastown where the options of outdoor lounging seem to be endless. We waited about 20 minutes to get some outdoor seats, which isn't too bad seeing as when the weather is nice, the patios fill quickly. Chill Winston isn't exactly the cheapest place to eat, but they certainly do not disappoint on the food. It's totally worth coming here - especially if you feel like trying anything from bison, to rabbit to kangaroo. Yes, you read that correctly. This place worked for us both seeing my friend's a vegetarian and I'm not. We decided to share the tri-dip platter to start, which included baked tortilla chips and three dips. The tortillas weren't too soft nor crisp and had a mild seasoning so they weren't bland. The hummus dip was the lesser of the three (not to say it wasn't good), but we prefer a creamier texture, and the hummus was coarse, a little bland, and left the mouth feeling pasty. The tapenade was our second most enjoyed, with a lovely olive and garlic flavour. a more oily texture, this dip is light and not overpowering. The creamy Avalanche dip we devoured. Not really sure all that went into it, but we loved it. Tortilla chips and dip to start? Do it! For dinner I rocked the duck leg confit and cassoulet. The duck was absolutely delicious, being tender with mild seasoning for added flavour, and was pan seared, which added a nice crispy exterior. It was paired lovely with a bean cassoulet and cranmelaide. I've never had cassoulet, but it's very light and bursting with flavour. A perfect addition to duck. Now what do we need to help this all down the hatch and top off patio relaxing? A martini of course! Okay, so it's not your standard martini, but this felt like drinking a chilled spiked espresso. Here's what's in it: Pepper & Thai chili infused El Jimador reposado, Kahlua, cinnamon honey syrup, Aztec chocolate bitters, espresso... So... a spiked espresso with some sweet, some spice, all nice! All in all, I'll be back at Chill Winston again, and it's a toss up between bison and kangaroo. |
